Two sisters had a pleasant surprise when they spotted a rare picture of their late brother on the Express & Star’s new archive system.

Sisters Alison Felkin and Cassandra Orme popped into the Wolverhampton office to collect the photo which was first seen by family friend Simon Williams.

The picture shows Ronnie Orme playing up for the camera while working on the Wolverhampton ring road back in 1981.

Ronnie died from a heart attack in 2003, aged 48.

He lived in Nuneaton and worked in construction for most his life.

His family travelled up on Monday from their home in Erdington, Birmingham.

Cassandra, aged 48, said: “We’ve got hardly any pictures of Ronnie and we’d never seen either of these before.

“They really sum up the sort of person he was. Publishing archive photos like these is a great idea.”

The newspaper, with support of the University of Wolverhampton and WAVE: The Museums, Galleries and Archives of Wolverhampton, is submitting a lottery bid to allow its photographic archive, dating back to 1874, to be made available to the public on an internet site where people can view the pictures free of charge.
