Plans to convert a former police station into an overnight shelter for homeless men had been vetoed by the town planning committee after receiving hundreds of objections from residents.

In order to provide suitable fire escape facilities, the Old Wulfrunians Club erected a special balcony on one side of the building where members could await rescue from the fire brigade in Red Lion Street.

Road widening suggestions included an opening out of St Marks Road and a reduction in the width of the pavements. Tettenhall Road, Merridale and Compton Roads are mentioned.
