- Admin History: John Harper Co was founded in 1790 by William Brueton and William Harper as a small lock making business, the company was named John Harper after William Harper's son. John Harper's son John Harper Junion set up his own company named John Harper Junior which was based at the Albion Works in Willehall, by the 1850s they had diversified away from locks, into more general metal work and began to produce products for external companies. This firm was one of the first to introduce machinery condusive to mass production which led to it becoming a successful export company. The company re-incorporated in 1888 under the name John Harper & Co Ltd.
In 1899 the company registered the trademark Beatrice which was the name used for its finished products mostly domestic hardware and heaters, this activity ceased in 1970.
In 1974 the frim was taken over by Duport, who in 1982, decided to combine the factories of the several foundries they then owned into a single site in Tipton. At this point John Harper and Co left Willenhall and ceased to trade as a separate business. - Extent: 1 item
